The film is considered the most ambitious and personal work in his oeuvre: a kind of self-portrait in the form of a vampiric film about addiction, cinema, and self-loss. Zulueta was a cult figure of the Spanish underground and a key figure in La Movida Madrileña, the explosion of artistic freedom in post-Franco Spain. He worked mainly outside the commercial circuit, with Super-8 and 16mm, and made films that balance experimental cinema, pop culture, found footage, and personal obsession. Zulueta’s own struggle with heroin and his fascination with image and time are deeply etched into the film, giving Arrebatodie the rare intensity of a work that is not only about obsession, but also driven by it.   In Madrid’s underground scene, we follow José Sirgado, a B-horror director trapped in a web of heroin, failed relationships, and creative exhaustion.
