What happens when a queer filmmaker attempts to reimagine a notorious horror series from her childhood? In Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Jane Schoenbrun, director of I Saw the TV Glow, returns to the world of the classic slasher film – but this time from the perspective of someone for whom horror is not just fear, but also a means of self-discovery.

Schoenbrun blurs the boundaries between film and reality ever further. Painted backdrops, artificial snow, grotesque amounts of blood and a profusion of horror clichés bring the artificial world of Camp Miasma to life, whilst the film simultaneously explores how fiction can shape us – and how images from our childhood can become ingrained in our bodies and our imaginations.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is both a loving embrace of and a critical dissection of the horror film.
