Are films completely your thing? Do you dream of making films yourself? Then the Young NW Summer School is where you need to be this summer.

A 5-day workshop in which you work alongside young filmmaker Crispin Yanisi on scripts, cameras, and sound. In the mornings, Godart Bakkers will guide you through the history of cinema.

A fresh lunch is provided every day. On Wednesday, we spend the entire day at KASK Ghent, where you’ll get to know the film programme and work in the studios.

CRISPIN YANISI

is a young Belgian filmmaker from Aalst. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Film at KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent, where he also works as a freelance filmmaker. Yanisi’s work is characterised by a poetic visual language and a focus on themes such as identity, language loss, and cultural belonging. His short film Tilapia (2025) received international attention and was screened at festivals such as Courtisane in Ghent and EMAF in Germany. In 2025, Yanisi won the Belgian Short prize at the Afrika Film Festival with his film Une lettre d’un fils à sa mère, a powerful and personal film about memory, migration, and family ties. Crispin Yanisi leads the Young NW film club.

GODART BAKKERS

is a curator, film programmer, researcher, and organiser working at the intersection of art and film. In 2018, he co-founded Monokino, a collective presenting films, performances, and artworks about the sea in Ostend. Bakkers has a strong background in both the art world and the film world. As a film programmer, he has worked for various organisations, including the European Media Art Festival in Osnabrück. Since 2023, he has been artistic director of NW Aalst, together with Laura Herman. He is also a lecturer and researcher at KASK & Conservatorium (HOGENT – Howest).
