ABOUT SMURFPUNX
Smurfpunx was a collective of friends from the Ghent, Wetteren and Aalst areas, active in the 1980s and early 1990s, which initially focused on distributing cassettes and soon began organising concerts for Belgian and international hardcore punk bands. The first gig took place at the Roxy in Dendermonde, but through contacts in Aalst and driven by an alternative, anarchist spirit, the collective’s activities shifted mainly to the Netwerk cultural centre in Aalst, where the majority of the gigs took place. Several of those involved were also active in bands such as Repulsives and Hate Crew, produced fanzines, ran a distribution network or organised tours. Smurfpunx thus grew into a key hub within the Belgian hardcore punk scene.
