In Blue Moon, Richard Linklater turns his gaze to a moment of decline: a single evening in the life of musical lyricist Lorenz Hart, once successful as one half of a legendary duo, now sidelined.

On the opening night of Oklahoma! (the triumphant new work by his former partner Richard Rodgers), Hart (Ethan Hawke) watches as his own past is slowly being overshadowed. In a New York bar, a stream of conversations, memories, and wry humor unfolds, in which sharp wit and self-destruction go hand in hand.

Blue Moon is a precise character study, carried by Hawke’s sense of timing and tragicomic nuance. Beneath the wit lies a deeper melancholy: about missed opportunities, artistic rivalry, and a longing for recognition that never quite fades away.
