Brian De Palma’s Dressed to Kill is a sensuous thriller and an extravagant homage to Hitchcock. Angie Dickinson plays a restless housewife whose fleeting encounter in a museum culminates in her violent death. A call girl (Nancy Allen), falsely accused, joins forces with the victim’s son to unmask the killer—only to be pursued herself by a figure wielding a razor. With its stylised set pieces, split screens and dreamlike suspense, the film transforms desire and fear into a baroque psychodrama, a theatre of excess that finds uncanny echoes in the carnivalesque cosmologies of Pauline Curnier Jardin. It is no coincidence that she drew on De Palma’s title for her exhibition here.
