A chicken as the main character, an abandoned seaside restaurant and a world in which people sometimes behave more cruelly than animals. In Hen, Hungarian director György Pálfi follows a small black-brown chicken that escapes from a Greek chicken farm and subsequently finds itself in one peril after another.

With black humour and a remarkable sensitivity towards his animal protagonist, Pálfi turns her survival story into a dark yet surprisingly light-hearted parable about exploitation, violence and the relationship between humans and animals. The chickens are real – no CGI – which makes the film even stranger and more fascinating.
