In an oppressive near future, Brazilians aged 77 and older lose their independence: their jobs and homes are taken away from them, and they are placed in the Colony, a home that resembles a prison. Tereza (an impressive Denise Weinberg) is also in danger of losing her freedom.

Gabriel Mascaro sketches a frightening society that discards the elderly, but does not leave his stubborn heroine without hope. While police cars patrol the streets specifically for “disobedient seniors”, Tereza desperately searches for a way out – along the Amazon, in encounters with other free spirits, and even through a mysterious blue snail slime that promises to reveal the future.

What begins as a dystopian vision grows into a whimsical, poetic road movie full of resistance and unexpected warmth. The Blue Trail won the Grand Jury Prize in Berlin and confirms Mascaro’s reputation as one of the most idiosyncratic voices in contemporary cinema.
