With Urchin, Harris Dickinson makes a powerful and compelling directorial debut. This raw yet poetic film follows Mike, a homeless, drug-addicted man in his twenties, convincingly portrayed by Frank Dillane.
Mike moves through the city like a shadow: invisible to passersby, trapped in a daily struggle for survival. When a violent act lands him in prison, his life seems to reach a turning point. What follows is not a simple story of redemption, but rather a fragile quest for control, dignity, and a form of inner peace.
With a strikingly restrained visual style and subtle elements of magical realism, Dickinson creates a film that simultaneously maintains distance and touches the heart deeply. Urchin invites us to watch without judgment, and to recognize humanity where it is often overlooked.
The film was honored in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, where it won both the International Film Critics’ Prize and the Best Actor Award.
