Julian Abraham “Togar”

Julian Abraham “Togar”

Living and working in Yogyakarta, Julian Abraham “Togar” moves fluidly between visual art, sonic practice, and experimental filmmaking. Trained as a drummer and engineer, his practice links art, environment, science, and technology that focuses on the demystification and dissemination of specialist scientific knowledge to broader communities through sound, installations and collaborative practices.  Often described as an artist, musician, and pseudo-scientist, he treats systems as materials, using complex interrelations to ask how knowledge is built and shared. His installations and sonic experiments propose art as both medium and method of learning.

Togar’s works have been presented at the Sydney Biennale; Istanbul Biennial; Gwangju Biennale; Taipei Biennale; Triennale Milano; 58th Carnegie International; SculptureCenter, New York; and in venues such as De Appel (Amsterdam), KHOJ (New Delhi), and Cemeti (Yogyakarta), among others—reflecting his ongoing interest in networks, translation, and the ethics of involvement.
