Roy Köhnke

Roy Köhnke (1990, France) is an artist based in Paris. Sculptures form the basis of his practice, leading to drawings, text and audio-visual installations. Taking inspiration from the dual sources of queer theory and science fiction, Köhnke seeks to pose alternatives to dominant narratives of the body. He does this through working with technologies such as MRI or artificial emotional intelligence to create transformative installations that aim to restore a body that has been fragmented and isolated by Western science and culture. These digital mediums are blended with more tactile sculptural and textile elements such as steel structures, clay and elastomer forms, handmade paper or cyanotype printed denim. Köhnke often works site-specifically, reconnecting the physical and narrative details of the body to its environment, while considering it as its own landscape.

“Roy Köhnke lives and works in Bobigny and Paris, France. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and Paris. Since 2016, his work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions. Recent highlights include his solo exhibition, All as Usual, Bright and Beautiful at Marcelle Alix gallery, Paris (2026), Fleur, Feu, at Crédac, Ivry (2025), as well as La Belle sucette ou comment diviser la terre at the Grand Café, Saint Nazaire (2024), and group exhibitions such as Publiek Park in Brussels, Eprouver l’inconnu at MOCO, Montpellier (2025), F(r)ictions of Intimacy, CALM, Lausanne (2024), Antéfutur at CAPC, Bordeaux (2023) and Tactique du rêve augmenté at La Verrière Hermès in Brussels (2022).
