Celebration of the Congolese Independence Day

As part of Lokaal Solidair, we are happy to open our doors to Afrik’Aalst to celebrate Congolese Independence Day together.

This celebration takes place at Fernando Marques Penteado’s exhibition Tender, Trivial, Totemic Table Talks about hospitality, social rituals and the question of who gets a seat at the table – past and present.

There will also be film, with time for reflection and conversation, music, fashion, art, a craft market and festive food.

PRACTICAL
12:00 – Doors open
13:00 – Film: Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat (Johan Grimonprez)
Halfway through the screening, there will be an intermission. After the film, there will be a post-screening discussion with Patrick Nsiala: How does this history affect us, here and now?
16:30 – Kitchen Stories: Congolese cuisine
freshly prepared by the mamas of Afrik’Aalst ‘poulet à la moambe’ with fried bananas

– fashion parade ‘The latest Congolese fashion
– craft market by Igal Creation
and, of course, music and a warm festive atmosphere
