Lokaal Solidair
Through Lokaal Solidair, a programme within Lokaal Dendy, NW, together with Diversplus and other partners, approaches solidarity as a shared responsibility—not through grand gestures, but as an everyday practice. The programme includes lectures, benefit events, film screenings, and workshops as moments of connection and resistance, alongside lasting initiatives such as a solidarity shop. Solidarity is expressed both through the programme and behind the scenes.
Currently, NW is explicitly focused on Palestine. The BDS movement serves as a key reference point in the fight against colonialism, Zionism, and apartheid. Every Thursday evening, we gather at Aalst station square to read Mahmoud Darwish’s poem Think of Others, share stories, and keep Palestine visible in public space.
The shop makes Lokaal Solidair’s activities tangible. It offers books from RILE BOOKS, alongside goods supporting Palestine. Proceeds from teas, mugs, and accessories from Diversplus go directly to Palestinian families in Aalst. Funds raised from Ya Gaza T-shirts are distributed through a rotating system; current support goes to Gaza Soup Kitchen and the Sameer Project.
Check our programme in collaboration with Palestinian Circus School: from 22 October to 12 November, Gaza Remains the Story, an initiative by PalestinaMuseum vzw in partnership with Foyer CC De Werf.
