Dennis Tyfus (b. 1979, Antwerp, Belgium) lives and works in Antwerp. His multidisciplinary practice includes drawings, paintings, graphic work, video, sculpture, installation, radio and music, and operates at the intersection of visual art, underground music and independent publishing culture.
From a young age, Tyfus was active in Antwerp’s alternative cultural scene, notably through Radio Centraal. Driven by his interest in punk and experimental music, he founded the platform Ultra Eczema. What began as a fanzine developed into a versatile artistic framework that brings together vinyl releases, books, graphic work, performances and exhibitions.Tyfus’ work is characterized by a raw, direct visual language and a pronounced DIY attitude toward cultural production. His drawings and paintings combine grotesque figures, humor and provocation. At the same time, his practice leaves room for zines, posters, record sleeves and collaborations with musicians and artists from the international experimental scene. In addition to his studio and publishing practice, Tyfus has for many years been active as an organizer and programmer of concerts, exhibitions and events in Antwerp.
Tyfus’ visual work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and abroad, including at de Warande, Beursschouwburg, Be-Part and 1646. He is represented by Tim Van Laere Gallery.
